Specialty Workshops

Our Specialty Workshop Series is geared towards providing training in special topics relevant to stage performers within the realm of performed violence.  Branching outside of our standard curricula, these workshops will feature acting technique, historical martial arts, alternate approaches to stage combat, and more.  Our goal is to host one workshop per month throughout the year, so stay tuned for future workshop announcements.

Instructor: H Ashley

Step into the world of emotional self-care and discover the tools you need to thrive as a performer. This workshop is designed for actors, live performers, and anyone who wants to protect their emotional wellbeing while committing to intense and challenging scenes.  Performers shouldn't have to choose between giving a stellar performance and taking their work home with them.

This class will help you develop skills to separate your own emotional journey from that of your character.  With practices for entering and exiting a rehearsal room, you will be able to really dig into the work while you’re there and then leave it at the door as you go on with the rest of your life.  You will learn how to establish strong internal boundaries that allow you to compartmentalize your performance - giving the art what it deserves while avoiding the stress of it bleeding over into your personal world.

This workshop will be led by H Ashley, an acclaimed intimacy director, actor/combatant, and stage manager with over 5 years’ experience helping actors navigate intense performances.  Their work has ranged from community through Equity theatre, and tackled difficult subjects such as self harm, group assault, and intimate partner violence.  They are passionate about guiding performers through challenging work while maintaining the joy in performance.  As a professed consent-based human, they are excited to work within the abilities and boundaries of each individual in the room.

Full Workshop Cost: $50
Pay-What-You-Can option is available to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ attendees.
